CSSDIR Topic Points for discussion
- overview: approach and multiple filtering
- vast user control over which file fields are displayed
- options and more options plus environment variables
- searching by filesize, easize, date, multiple wildcards
- finding duplicate files over multiple drives or network shares
- finding unique files amongst two or more paths
- computing crcs including crc's on EAs
- searching for text strings amongst selected files
- new sorts, etc over multiple directories/drives
- excluding files by suffixes, computing crcs
- programmers filtering of code files with user defined symbolic codes
- reading filespecs and excludes from a file
- multiple sorted reports in one pass
- baseline snapshots for later comparisons and system differences
CSSDIR Overview:
- Is a significant directory/file analyzing and file searching program
- similar to dir but much more powerful and versatile
- Important differences over dir:
- sorting and sifting is not by subdirectory but by all paths given, and one can filter on relative paths, and on many different fields.
- Limit files searched by fileSize, EaSize, search strings and date
- find duplicate files over multiple drives/UNC names under Diff names
- find unique files amongst two or more paths,
- compute crcs on file's data and even EAs integrated with other info
- produce baseline snapshots to compare differences exactly
- produce detailed multiple sorted listings over multiple drives in 1 pass
- Exclude files with certain suffixes. i.e. .zip, .rar, .tmp, etc
- Pro version includes: reading filespecs out of files, reading exclude suffixes out of files, comparing baselines
- Over 60 user controllable options
