The Sheraton Gateway Hotel Atlanta Airport

The Sheraton Gateway Hotel, the official Warpstock 99 hotel reports that the rooms are filling up quickly. Please note that the Warpstock special room rate has expired. However, you might still be able to get a good rate by asking for the "weekend rate" or the "AAA rate". Please mention to the hotel that you will be attending Warpstock 99.

The event location ... An early report
The Sheraton Gateway ... The Sheraton chain was recently purchased by the Starwood organization, which is trying to position itself as an upscale hospitality provider. The Sheraton Gateway contributes quite respectably to that goal : the hotel, and particularly guest rooms, are clean, attractive, well appointed and well maintained. The hotel (which is only a few years old) is currently undergoing a "renovation", which is mostly a decorative make-over and the addition of some amenities such as additional suites and a lobby lounge. The MARTA (rapid transit) station is within walking distance from the hotel but there are no sidewalks between the hotel and the station (which is at the airport). However, we are currently in discussion with the hotel management to provide a shuttle service from the hotel to the airport for us as frequently as 12 to 15 minute intervals. One feature of the hotel that we believe will be widely appreciated is the food service. Do not leave Warpstock without trying the Dixie Fried Chicken and the Southern Fried Catfish. These two meals are $32 and $24 respectively including soup, a beer and coffee. A very nice "casual" restaurant, Ruby Tuesday, is right across the street from the Sheraton. There are a limited number of $45 and $49 rooms within easy walking distance of the convention center. But these accommodations are spartan and not nearly as well serviced as the Sheraton.
The Georgia International Convention Center ... The Georgia International Convention Center is were the actual Warpstock event will take place. In general, GICC is clean, well maintained and well managed. It has well thought out public spaces that allow smooth and quick flow between spaces. The area that we will be using couldn't be laid out better for our purposes. Entering the Convention Center from the main entrance, the Warpstock pre-event space is the main lobby of the building. The exhibit hall will be immediately to the right and the "break-out" rooms will be found immediately to the left. One break-out room opens on to the pre-event space, the other five open on to the same corridor, three on one side and two on the other. If you enter from the hotel you would walk down this corridor to the pre-event space. An entire section of the facility has been dedicated to Warpstock 99. If necessary, there are a series of additional meeting rooms on the second floor and some additional space immediately adjacent in the hotel. The second floor is accessible by stairs, escalator and elevator. There are concession stands in the pre-event area and exhibition hall. The ballroom that we will be using for a Saturday night event is at the top of an escalator which is at the end of the corridor described above. Restrooms are well distributed, clean, well lit and accessible. Telephones and vending machines are also available in sufficient numbers. One very nice feature is an electronic directory system. As you enter the pre-event space a large electronic board is capable of listing every room in the facility. Each room has an electronic display at the door. Display titles can be set for each time segment and reset if needed. Overall we think everyone will be very happy with both GICC and the Sheraton Gateway.
